UAH students are encouraged to augment the quality, both in terms of depth and diversity, of their collegiate experience, by studying abroad or experience working in a foreign setting. The OIPS works closely with each individual to provide assistance in locating an appropriate program. In addition, UAHis an affiliate of the AustraLearn program, the premier study abroad organization for Australian andNew Zealand universities, and the Knowledge Exchange Institute (KEI), which offers unique international education opportunities that integrate a large selection of subject-specific courses, professional internships and site visits in an all inclusive program. In the Study/Work Abroad library, students will also find guides from theAmerican Institute for Foreign Study, which offers academic-year, semester and summer study abroad programs in 14 countries, in subject areas as diverse as Islamic Studies, French Cinema, Business, and Engineering, and the International Studies Abroad program, which offers year-, semester-, month-, and summer-long programs and internships in 13 countries in numerous areas, such as Information Systems, Engineering and Technology, Graphic Design, Journalism, Law, Health Studies, and Computer Science.
The OIPS has worked with the UAHuntsville offices of Enrollment Services and Student Financial Services to devise a computer tracking system to allow students to retain their status as UAHuntsville students while studying or working abroad.
There are excellent web resources available to assist students considering study abroad. We recommend the following:
|
- Study Abroad Handbook - covers many issues pertaining to travel abroad (e.g., health concerns, obtaining passports and visas, finding financial aid).
- Peterson's Guide - search-based site of study abroad opportunities. We also have the guide in our office for student use.
- WWW Virtual Library - contains search engines, special directories, and sources for study abroad, work abroad and volunteer opportunities abroad.

In addition to assisting students in the design of their own programs or to participate in another program offered by other institutions, students are encoruaged to particpate in the UAHuntsville Global Studies programs.
