Money & Meals
The Study of the U.S. Branch, AED, and UAH will pay for all program costs, such as the cost of your transportation, accommodations in Huntsville, and admission to cultural activities. We will give you meal cards that allow you to eat buffet-style meals in the UAH cafeteria, as well as a cash stipend to be used in local restaurants or to cook some meals.
The costs of academic supplies, such as books and photocopies, will also be paid for. There is also a mailing allowance to help send your classroom materials back to China after the Institute.
You will be responsible to pay for any personal items, such as souvenirs, that you want to buy during your stay. We do not recommend that you travel with large amounts of cash. You can bring traveler's checks to exchange for cash at banks in the U.S., or bring debit or credit cards that allow you to get cash from a bank's ATM (Automatic Teller Machine). If you wish to use it, there is an Alabama Credit Union bank on campus. Please be aware that you may be subject to fees for use of ATMs (Automatic Teller Machines). For example, if you use a debit or credit card to withdraw cash from an ATM, the ATM may charge you a fee (usually less than $3), and your home bank may charge you a fee as well. It is important to realize this ahead of time and plan how many times you can afford to go to the ATM. Consult your home bank about its policies before you depart!
